CHRISTMAS 2010

As in previous years our christmas starts on christmas eve when we have our traditional turkey dinner. With christmas being on a saturday this year, friday at work was manic and I was exhausted before I even started, however it was nice to eventually sit down and enjoy all the trimmings. The kitchen/dining set up at the moment was not really suited as it meant we would be sitting in the kitchen with the bombshell that is left behind when cooking one of these dinners! The solution then was to bring in the big BBQ table and set it up in the lounge, Yes, this was the easiest option as bringing in the big dining table from the kitchen would have meant taking off it's legs to do so and it all became a bit too hard. So inside the BBQ table came and did a grand job!

Mum had made a pav and despite it's rough journey to get to the end result (little tip mummy.....always check the beater is attached properly before turning on, apparently they can make a little bit of a mess if you don't....but I think you know this now aye ;)

Anyhow here are the photos, I apologise in advance on Rachelle's behalf, I have no idea what was going on with her but she seemed to have an attraction for the camera and the need to be right in it's face.

So now onto christmas day....

It started around 7am as seems to be the norm and as also seems to be the norm we were waiting on Hayely to get up. Brent did a sterling job of handing out the pressies and everyone seems to be very pleased with what they got.

The weather was looking fantastic, that ugly wind that had been hanging around had dropped right off and the sun was shining. Perfect day for the BBQ that was to follow. As I thought there was a bit of time before everyone arrived I started doing some catch up things, painting the gate being one of them and Mum was out weeding my garden!! Seems I got the timing wrong on things and the BBQ end of things was to start earlier......oh well, down tools and get cracking!

The weather held up pretty well but the wind started to make another appearance and it seems everyone copped a bit of sun/wind burn, it was quite deceptive as no one realised at the time they were burning.  It was a good day with plenty of tucker and a really nice way to spend christmas day.

As I am doing this  it is blowing a howling gale outside, we were so so lucky with that break in the weather yesterday!!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE

HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!

it's beginning to feel alot like xmas....

This will be our first xmas in this house, we finally got round to getting the tree last weekend, we thought we had got a real bargain having paid $10 less than the price on it, only to find when we got home that the trunk was kinda bent which meant the tree didn't really sit straight....not recommended. Oh well...we put it up and I put my xmas cd on and started to decorate it, was having a lovely time , in between sneezing fits!

Actually.....I have noticed that everyone's hayfever seems to be on the increase since the tree arrived, could just be purely coincidence as I am sure it is because it couldn't possibly be the tree!

Anyhow....there we were again, in the lounge, Brent and I (girls are up in their caves on their computers) watching a movie when, you guessed it......the tree came crashing down!!!!

What is it with this house that everything must come crashing down, can't just fall over quietly, no, has to make a big scene and a big mess. All the decorations came flying off, tree hit the couch on the way down but thankfully, this time round nothing got broken. I was so thankful the decorations didn't break as alot of them were Aunty Jacqui's so they are extra special.

So we stood the tree back up, mopped up the water that had spewed out all over the place and left the tree bare for a few days until I could muster up the strength to start over with it again.....no xmas songs this time, can't seem to find the cd again.....funny that?!?!?!?

I have also made the first pavlova for the year, just had to do a trial one to see if I still liked them, seems I do!!!

Bedrooms

The house has 4 bedrooms, two upstairs and two downstairs. We decided very early on that the girls would have the upstairs bedrooms as that is all the upstairs consists of and it would be like their domain. The walls up here need a fair bit of work, they have taken rather a bashing with what look like kung fu kicks to the walls, not sure what went on up here and don't really want to ponder that too much but there were locks on all of the doors!

The girls get to decide room colour, Rachelle has gone for pink with a darker feature wall, Hayley is still to decide on her colour scheme but is leaning towards pink as well, only not the pink Rachelle has!

So....while Rachelle was away in the Wairarapa for the weekend I threw the first lot of pink up on her wall, it was quite a contrast after being used to the walls being undercoat white! I knew she would love it though and she did :)

The wardrobe door is to replaced, this was one of the original doors, the louvre doors replacing these are still sitting in the garage waiting for me to paint them...haha....might get onto that this weekend....might not...

While we love the pink, it was clear that to do all of the walls in this colour would be a bit much!!! So we threw some of it in with some white paint and painted the rest of the walls. Rachelle is really pleased witht the result and the room looks good, hers so far is the only one done, everyone else is still living with that beautiful undercoat white. Well, except for the spare room (Brents computer room) which hasn't been touched at all apart from ripping up that old worn and ripped carpet that was in there.

So there we have it, all that needs doing in Rachelles room now is the windows painted (and fixed!) and the wardrobe door going on but that is for another day!
