the blooper file

Ok, wasn't going to do this but events that took place in the weekend has prompted this page, I am sure along the way there will be many more but here's a good one to start with!

THE FRONT DOOR
When you are doing a project this big and so much stuff needs replacing, Trade Me becomes your new home, we browse it daily looking for bits and pieces and so far have snapped up some pretty good bargains. The front door being no exception, we were after a panel door with glass, didn't matter if it were rimu or pine, just needed to be panelled with the glass to let some light in. Brent came across one just before getting ready to shut down for the night, nice little rimu job (bonus), exactly what we were after, measurements appeared to be correct, after all, it was surely the same measurement as the back door....surely?

The door had only just been listed so wasn't due to close for a week so we stuck a bid on and looked at it daily. The closing time of the auction was during a weekday around mid morning. Come D Day, Brent ducks home to do the last minute bidding, some other dude was also quite keen on the door so there was a lil bidding war going on between the two of them, almost at the point where we were about to bail out the guy stopped bidding and we duely won that auction.......brilliant....fantastic price, exactly what we were after , couldn't believe our luck :)

Brent goes and collects the door and brings it home, the exterior needs sanding down and painting, we knew that, the interior side  is gorgeous, that beautiful warm glow you get from heart rimu and the light coming through the stained glass.....stunning!

So the door sits in the garage (alongside the back door and Rachelles wardrobe louvre door) for awhile until a convieniant time to put it in. This weekend was that such time, old door off, new door ready to go on. At this point I have to duck out pick Rachelle up from a friends place, pretty confident that when I get back, said door will be hung and looking mighty grand.

Now....anyone who has ever hung a door probably knows things don't always go to plan, but I bet not too many of them struck the problem we did, as it was being hinged, Brent went to close it to check the gap underneath, that was fine, what he wasn't expecting was the huge gap at the side.....yep.....the door was the wrong width!!!!

In all our excitement in finding the right door we never actually measured the front door...who would have thought the front door and back door were different sizes....ahhhahahahahahahaaa.

So upon returning with Rachelle we get out the car and admire the door, and the look on Brents face.was priceless!!!

But he is a very clever chap and sorted the problem and the door now looks fab. I am sure this will not be the only mishap along the way, there is so much going on with so many projects all at once that common sense does not aways prevail.

I still laugh everytime I think about it, once of the highlights so far in this long hard slog.

check out that gap!!!

no worries.....I've got a plan

no one will ever know!
